(Bot.) A genus of plants of the Poppy family. Note: Sanguinaria Canadensis, or bloodroot, is the only species. It has a perennial rootstock, which sends up a few roundish lobed leaves and solitary white blossoms in early spring. See Bloodroot.
2.
The rootstock of the bloodroot, used in medicine as an emetic, etc.
