(psychiatry) a relatively permanent state of worry and nervousness occurring in a variety of mental disorders, usually accompanied by compulsive behavior or attacks of panic. Synonym: anxiousness.

A vague unpleasant emotion that is experienced in anticipation of some (usually ill-defined) misfortune.
